A woman has been jailed for over three months after she was seen by two dog walkers having drunken sex on a canal tow path.

Toni Keane, 26, was caught having sex with a man, on the footpath next to the Calder and Hebble Navigation off Stainland Road on August 26.

Calderdale Magistrates heard two dog walkers had been on the towpath at around 6.20pm when they heard someone shout towards them.

The dog walkers then saw Keane performing oral sex on the man.

The walkers moved away but when they returned along the towpath later they saw the couple having sex and heard them shouting so they called the police.

Keane initially denied the offence in her police interview.

Mark Steeples, prosecting, told the Magistrates: “She told the police she was not the type of person to do what was alledged and that she gets embarrassed easily.

“The people who saw it said they were disgusted by what they had seen,” he added.

But in court, Keane pleaded guilty to the charge of outraging public decency.

She also admitted two shop thefts from June 18, when she stole a bottle of Jacks Apple Sour from the One Stop shop in Elland and a crate of lager from the Co-op, also in Elland.

Joanne Lata, defending, said: “She accepts she shouldn’t have been doing it on a canal towpath.

“She was in drink and in a new relationship and she accepts she got carried away.”

Keane, of Langdale Street, in Elland, was jailed for 98 days.

The man denies the offence and will appear in court at a later date.
