Champion Cyclists were the special guests at an annual prizegiving event.

Former Women’s Cycling World Road Race Champion Mandy Jones and her husband Nigel Bishop, who began his riding career with the former Halifax Cyclists Touring Club and held the Tour of Britain yellow jersey during his professional cycling career, joined the ceremony for Calderdale Cyclists Touring Club.

Forty club members heard Mandy and Nigel recall memories of their careers at the club’s 83rd annual awards evening held at the Shay.

CTC Calderdale president Charlotte Bromley said: “To have been able to welcome both a former cycling world champion and a top professional rider was an honour in itself, but as Nigel started his cycling career with us as a junior this was the icing on the cake.”

Prize winners included Robert Bialek, who won the President’s Cup and the Jubilee Trophy, Chris Crossland who won the Sands trophy, John Keighley who gained the Norman Riley trophy and president Charlotte Bromley, who won the May Evans trophy. Pat Stead was awarded the Simplex trophy for her contribution to the group as the organiser of the Winter Clubroom evenings.
