An inspiring teenager has been appointed as this year’s Brighouse Charity Gala Ambassador.

Damian Wales, 19, has been chosen by the Brighouse Charity Gala Committee and Brighouse Ladies Circle to fulfil the role and represent the community.

After Brighouse Ladies Circle advertised for nominees Damian was put forward by fellow Scout leader Connor Michaels.

Damian was awarded the role due to his contribution to the communities in and around the Brighouse area.

Damian is not only a Scout leader; he is developing his skills as a full-time referee and works behind the bar at Hove Edge Bowling Club.

This is all in addition to a full-time job for a local company that encourages young people to take up apprenticeships, showing that he is extremely proactive in the community.

Damian also has a wider role in Scouting locally and is responsible for all those completing the service section of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by acting as a young leader.

The Brighouse Charity Gala this year is taking place on Saturday 30 June at Wellholme Park from 11am.

Damian’s first day as Brighouse Charity Gala Ambassador will begin with him judging the floats in the parade, which is followed by the ceremony where he takes over from 2017’s Brighouse Charity Gala Ambassador Bethany Arnett.

The gala’s organisers will ensure Damian’s day is full. They will give him a guided tour of all the stalls as well as a meeting with the mayor.

As well as attending the gala he is keen to urge people to engage with the local community and make it better for everyone.

Damian said: “I am honoured and privileged to be nominated, and to have won as well is something special.

“I hope I can do a good job on the day while the sun is shining and see so many people coming together to help raise money for plenty of charities.”
