THIS beautiful little girl died after she was hit by a milk float in Halifax.
Toddler Zoya Hussain, just 22 months old, was outside her aunt’s home in West View, off Hopwood Lane, when the accident happened at 5.30pm on Thursday.
Her family say the angelic tot was running to join her older sisters and cousins who were picking flowers on the other side of the street.
“We’re all in shock,” said her aunt, Farzana Majid. “She was such a cheery little girl.”
Zoya’s mum Rizvana Majid had gone to visit her sister from her home off Gibbet Street with Zoya and her two older sisters.
She was upstairs and thought Zoya had followed her grandmother downstairs when she suddenly heard a scream.
“She just took her eye off Zoya for a second,” said Farzana. “Someone outside shouted ‘Your child is in the road’.
“It all happened so quickly. We can’t believe it.”
Her devastated family say Zoya’s cousins tried to shout out to her but could not stop her running out into the road.
Zoya was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary where desperate attempts were made to save her but she lost her fight for life yesterday morning.
An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the accident. He has been released on bail and inquiries are continuing.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Sergeant Garry Alderson in the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047.
