Disabled boy, eight, knocked off bike in Elland hit-and-run

Police are hunting for information after an eight-year-old with cystic fibrosis was left injured in the street by a careless driver.

The boy, who was hospitalised in the incident yesterday, is said to be shaken up by the incident.

The family of the youngster have appealed for information. His grandmother, Sharon Booth, said: "We want to ask the public if anyone on Broad Lea estate or surrounding areas or any businesses on Huddersfield road - where the car would have pulled out onto - has any CCTV or if they saw a white car speed off the estate at approx 6.20pm.

"Someone may know of someone with a white car who had visited the area yesterday evening that has occurred damage to the front or side of their car and it may have blue paint on it from Charlie’s bike to please contact Halifax Police Station."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 18.21 yesterday evening to Broad Lea in Elland, to reports an 8 year old boy on a bike has been in collision with car.

"The 8 year old boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries but has since been released.

"The car failed to stop at the scene.

"Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything to come forward and speak to police on 101 or use the live chat facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk quoting log 1575 of 24 October 2018."
