The number of arson cases in Calderdale are coming down, latest figures show.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) says it is succeeding in the fight against arson alongside emergency service partners and other agencies.

The statistics show that in 2010/11 there were 170 deliberate primary fires (including dwellings, commercial premises, road vehicles and ‘other) in the district compared to 135 in 2011/12, 103 in 2012/13, and 91 in 2013/14 and 2014/15.

There were also 656 deliberate secondary fires (including rubbish and grassland fires) in 2010/11, 560 in 2011/12, 306 in 2012/13, 420 in 2013/14 and 414 in 2014/15.

Despite the improving figures, and as part of national Arson Awareness Week last week, the fire service is spreading the message that one arson is one too many.
