As these photos taken by Tim Lovelady show, Rochdale Road was closed both ways by the incident which is understood to have happened shortly before 9pm.
Residents reported a police helicopter being called out.
Neither West Yorkshire Police or Greater Manchester Police have been able to provide the Courier with any details about the incident.
