A MAN had to be rescued by fire crews in the early hours of yesterday morning after his car rolled backwards down a hill when he accidentally knocked it into gear.
The driver, who fire crews say was in his twenties, was parked in a lay-by off New Hey Road, Scammonden at around 3am when he knocked the car’s gearstick.
The car, a Peugeot, rolled backwards down banking. He was trapped in the vehicle until crews from Elland, Huddersfield and Slaithwaite arrived.
Firefighters say his foot became trapped between the door and some fencing.
He called for help and after he was rescued, was taken to hospital with a suspected fracture to his foot.
It is not thought the man’s injuries are serious.
