Duke honours Rastrick residents group

Members of the Field Lane All Residents Association were acknowledged for their excellent work in the community by receiving The Duke of York Community Initiative Award from The Duke himself.

The association wanted to provide a social space for young people in the area after incidents of anti-social behaviour around local shops. FLARA consulted with the community and proposed a Parkour park on Highfield Road.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We were thrilled to be recognised by The Duke of York Community Initiative for our projects, and privileged to be invited to the awards ceremony, and to meet with other like-minded groups, at which we received a certificate from The Duke of York for our endeavours.

“We have only ever wanted to improve the area in which we live, particularly for the elderly and young people, so we were truly proud to receive acknowledgement from His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York.”

The £55,000 project was 50 per cent funded by Newground Together and Pennine Housing 2000, with contributions from Community Safety Fund, Efficiency North, Community Foundation for Calderdale and SITA Trust.

Peter Jordan, Executive Director of Newground Together, said: “This group submitted a very interesting proposal and worked hard to secure funding from a number of sources. I think this project is a great way to provide interesting activities for young people and we were pleased to support it.”
