As part of its Stand Up for Education campaign, the NUT has called on politicians nationally to take part in similar debates.

The debate is open to any selected candidate from any party prior to December 4, so will include Conservative MP Craig Whittaker, Green Party candidate Jenny Shepherd, Labour candidate Josh-Fenton Glynn, Liberal Democrat candidate Alisdair MacGregor and UKIP candidate Paul Rogan.

Students will be encouraged to take part in the debates, with a debating competition being opened prior to the event.

Sue McMahon, NUT Divisional Secretary for Calderdale, said: “This is an exciting opportunity - the students are fully involved. They’ll be designing posters, leaflets and tickets. And a young person from the school will be on the platform - it’s going to be a really positive thing.”

The ticketed event will take place on March 6, 2015.
