A re-opened playgroup in Elland has been described as “good” by Ofsted.
Elland Under 5’s Community Playgroup, formerly Elland Parish Playgroup, was re-opened in September 2011 by former employee Lisa Manning.
The playgroup, which used to be run by volunteers, had closed the previous July after 40 years.
Inspectors made their first visit to the new nursery at All Saints Church in Savile Road, Elland, in April.
In their report, they said that the overall quality of the provision is good, and that the playgroup uses innovative and informative records of children’s assessment.
The report also says that the children are confident and happy in a safe, secure environment, and praised the playgroup for giving children the chance to be creative.
Lisa, who now works at Kirklees College after a spell a Siddal School, has re-employed some of her colleagues to run the playgroup.
“We’re absolutely chuffed that we’ve been given a good rating by Ofsted,” she said.
“All the staff have worked really hard to ensure that we have been successful.
“Ofsted don’t give the outstanding rating on their first visit because they have nothing to compare it to, so this is the best we could have achieved,” she said.
Elland Under 5’s Community Playgroup is open Monday to Wednesday, 8.45am to 3.15pm, and currently has 21 children aged two to five on the roll.
