When Anita Moore was a pupil at West Vale Primary School, never did she anticipate that some 40 years on she’d be receiving a national award for her long-lasting services.
The cooking charge has just been crowned ‘cook of the year ‘ as part of the National Unsung Heroes Catering Staff Awards.
Anita, now 47, has been employed by West Vale - where she attended as a child - since 1995.
She was put forward for the prize by headteacher Rachel Kemp, who said she was a credit to the school and particularly appreciated for her hardworking efforts in serving up impressively themed lunches.
Anita - whose grandson Jacob currently attends West Vale - said she was thrilled with the win. She said: “It’s absolutely amazing, it’s just made me feel that everything that I do is so appreciated.”
Anita serves up around 146 dinners on a daily basis and said it could be her unique style of dining that led to the win.
She said: “We’ve taken over the dining room and we celebrate every holiday, harvest festival, Christmas, St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day.”
