A struggling Halifax school will become an academy this week with the change hailed as a “new and exciting phase” by Calderdale Council.
Mount Pellon Junior and Infant School, Pellon, Halifax, was put into special measures in May 2012 following an Ofsted inspection and will become an academy on April 1, sponsored by the Northern Education Trust (NET).
A further inspection of the primary school, which is Calderdale’s largest with 575 pupils, in February marked it as ‘improving’.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Life-long Learning, Coun Ashley Evans, said: “We are very positive about this new beginning for the school and the opportunities it will generate for local children.
“I have met the trustees and feel confident that the school is about to embark upon a new and exciting phase in its development.”
