A BOOK celebrating an Elland school’s centenery year has been launched.
Staff and students past and present attended the official release of The Brooksbank Legacy: Our Story 1911 – 2011, alongside sponsors, contributors and governors. It was the first major event to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary.
Headteacher Kevin McCallion, who introduced the book, said: “This is a terrific launch for what promises to be a memorable year in every way.”
The four headteachers who have led the school from 1969 were in the audience, who enjoyed listening to extracts read by co-writer and researcher Bryn Moore.
Guests also had the chance to meet old friends and pore over exhibitions of school memorabilia from 1911 to the present day.
Executive headteacher Jeanne Watson, who coordinated the event, paid tribute to the editorial team of Bryn Moore, Karen Perry and Lee Edmondson.
She said: “Their energy and ambition, allied to three years of hard work, has resulted in a superb tribute to one hundred years of education here on the Brooksbank site.”
Every member of staff and every student will receive a copy of the book, which will be used in lessons to teach young people about the legacy of education in Elland.
The centenery celebrations continue on Wednesday with a gala concert at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax.
