Elderly woman confronts burglar in her home with walking stick

An 88-year-old woman bravely confronted a burglar in her Ripponden home with her walking stick.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 10, at around 7.30pm when the suspect entered the house, off Ripponden New Bank.

The woman confronted the man, but he managed to make off with an amount of cash. The victim was uninjured.

Calderdale police have released an efit image of a man they would like to speak in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Helen Hird of Calderdale CID said; “This has clearly been a frightening experience for the victim coming across an intruder in her home. She bravely confronted him and disturbed his attempts to steal further property. 

“Whilst taking place during the early evening, there will have been a number of people using the roads and paths in and around the area who may have seen the suspect before, or after the burglary. 

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area on Sunday evening and may have seen anyone matching the suspect’s description, or who can offer any information that may assist with our enquiries to come forward.”
