End of era for as club meets for final time

The Waring Green Forget-Me-Not club took the decision to close due to dwindling numbers of members and lack of volunteers.

The group which meets at Waring Green Community Centre appealed for help to keep the club running and attract new members but sadly this has failed to materialise.

Secretary treasurer Dorothy Gillson said it was no longer viable to keep the club going and took the sad decision to stop.

“We’ve had a lack of members and the number of members are going down.

“There are members who have been here a long time.

“The small fees members pay for food and for entertainment means it is getting too hard now and its not viable.

“Because of some of the age of the volunteers who are into the 80’s and 90’s, it’s not fair on them either.

“We lost 15 members, it had taken us down to just over 40 members as many had died or moved away to be near their families.

“We are all sorry to see the club go.”

The club, which opened its doors 61 years ago faced difficulty in 2012 because of a decline in numbers.

However they bounced back but bounced back when members of the Hove Edge 65 Club and Brighouse Good Companions joined when those groups closed and there was a waiting list to join.
