Community spirited volunteers across Calderdale are putting the final preparations in place for the Halifax Charity Gala tomorrow.

The event, which has run since 1957, is staged by the Halifax Charity Gala Committee, for the benefit of local charitable organisations.

More than 15,000 people are expected to watch the procession and enjoy the day at Manor Heath Park, with all proceeds raised going to more than 50 good causes which benefit the people of Calderdale.

Chairmain Lee Gething said: “There’s a lot of planning that goes into each and every Gala.

“After a full twelve months of effort, it’s most rewarding to see everybody taking part, and the fantastic contributions that come from the member charities each year.”

The Grand Procession leaves from Eureka! Children’s Museum at 11.30am, following a new route through the heart of Halifax Town Centre, before arriving at Manor Heath in time for the grand opening at 1pm.

Once the celebrations on Saturday have officially started, the member charities run their own stalls, which this year include fairground attractions, donkey rides, arena entertainment and much more.

Treasurer Julian Fielden added: “Each year it’s heartening to see the donations we receive, which last year totalled over £20,000.

“The Gala has raised more than £400,000 itself in the last 35 years, with over 85 per cent of our profits being distributed back to the good causes we support.”

This year, four volunteers, will also be recognised for their long service representing the Halifax Boys Brigade, Kingston Guides and Churches Together.

Tickets are available from www.halifaxgala.org.uk at an advance purchase rate, but are also available on the day with a single ticket admitting either one adult or two children,
