Calderdale teams work through the night as flood risk remains high in the borough

No major incidents of flooding have been reported yet but with more heavy downpours forecast the district is still on high alert.

A flood warning remains in place for Walsden Water. The flood siren was sounded yesterday evening warning people that flooding could be expected.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "River levels remain elevated on Walsden Water due to the persistent rainfall that has fallen over the last 24 hours.

"Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is still expected today,

"Further persistent rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high throughout Thursday.

"Areas most at risk are properties in Walsden, especially around the station.

"The railway line will also flood. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are liaising with emergency services and checking defences.

"Please remain safe and put your flood plan into action and activate any property flood protection products you may have, such as flood barriers and air brick covers."

Flood alerts remain in place for the lower and upper River Calder catchment areas.
