Flood warnings extended to other parts of Calderdale with immediate action required

The EA has issued a flood warning along the River Calder at Brearley and Luddenden Foot.

Residents are being told to take immediate action.

A spokesperson for the EA said: "River levels across the Upper Calder Catchment have risen as a result of persistent heavy rainfall associated with Storm Christoph.

"River levels are now approaching the threshold where we expect properties to flood.

"The area most at risk is Tenterfields Business Estate. Further rainfall is forecast throughout today and we expect river levels to remain high.

"Our incident response staff are checking defences and we are closely monitoring the forecast. Please move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety and do not walk or drive through fast moving water.

A flood warning remains in place at Walsden Water at Walsden

The flood siren was sounded yesterday evening warning people to take action.

The EA spokesperson added: "River levels remain elevated on Walsden Water due to the persistent rainfall associated with Storm Christoph.

"Although levels are now falling slightly, levels are expected to rise again in response to today’s rainfall.

"We expect this second peak to occur around 2pm today reaching levels similar to those seen around 9am this morning.

"Flooding of property, roads and farmland is still expected today, 20/01/2021.

"Further rain is expected today and river levels will remain high throughout Thursday. Areas most at risk are properties in Walsden, especially around the station.

"The railway line will also flood. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are liaising with emergency services and checking defences.

"Please remain safe and put your flood plan into action and activate any property flood protection products you may have, such as flood barriers and air brick covers."
