CALDERDALE is one of eight Yorkshire councils to get £100,000 from the Government to improve run down high streets.
Others to benefit include Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds and Sheffield.
The grants are in response to the recommendations of shopping guru Mary Portas put forward in December.
Ministers say that they are accepting the vast majority of her proposals but that they want to go further with a raft of new incentives, funding schemes and bureaucracy-busting measures.
Local Government Minister Grant Shapps said: “ I’m also offering a ‘Portas-Plus’ deal, with a range of measures designed to help local people turn their high streets into the beating hearts of their communities once again.”
