The Met Office warned residents that Harrogate may be affected by heavy rain, sleet, light snow and icy conditions which may affect rush hour commuters on Friday morning.

Lower levels of Harrogate have been warned of 2 to 5cm of snow while at higher levels, over the pennines, this could rise to 10cm with a risk of ice also in place.

The ‘weather bomb’ which is currently sweeping the country, has already seen wind speeds of 144mph recorded on the remote St Kilda islands, with gusts in excess of 80mph elsewhere.

However, the weather warning for North Yorkshire and Harrogate currently ends at 10am on Friday with no further warnings in place for the region over the weekend.
