The demolition of the existing Caldene Bridge will begin as soon as the new bridge is open, along with the remaining excavation works to widen that section of the river. But how will moving the bridge reduce flooding. The Environment Agency explains the benefits of creating the new bridge.
5.
It is a two-span structure, with a central pier and is over 12m wider than the existing Caldene Bridge.
6.
The area beneath the new bridge (cross-sectional area) will be nearly twice the size of the existing bridge, 97.8m2 compared to 57.9m2 once completed.
7.
The height of the bridge deck was dictated by the existing road levels on both Caldene Avenue and Burnley Road.
8.
Upon completion, the new bridge structure, the channel widening, the new raised bridge parapets and flood defence walls will better protect the village of Mytholmroyd from future flood risk.
