Ground investigation works started this week on the site of the former Blackley brick works at the top of Elland.
It follows the demolition of the dilapidated buildings which have been an eyesore for years.
Property developer Metnor has outline planning permission for 120 homes.
Development director Gerald Hall said the site was cleared to enable ground work to start.
“We have a number of house builders interested,” he said. “Once we get the ground works report we will have a clearer picture of how housing developers will want to progress.”
