Warning issued again around Ogden Water as visitors continue to flout lockdown rules

Calderdale Council and the authorities are reminding people that Ogden Water is closed to visitors as people continue to flout lockdown restrictions.

Yorkshire Water has joined forces with Calderdale Council to stop visits to the reservoir whcih closed to the public on March 22.

Posting on their Facebook page Ogden Water Nature reserve said: "Alluring and as beautiful as Ogden Water is, remember it is closed. The car parks are closed, the paths around the reservoir and through the woodlands are closed and there is no access to them.

"This weekend has seen a large number of people trying to get here to walk around, including families with young children.

"The police are regularly in attendance as are the Safety and Community Wardens and are able to issues fines for breaking Covid-19 rules and illegal parking.

"The only way that you are able to walk around Ogden is when all this is over, and then we will welcome you back. For now, please stay away, stay safe (with your families) and help us all get through this lockdown as quickly and safely as we can."

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services and Communities, Susan Press said: “Respect the safety of the Yorkshire Water staff who need access to Ogden Water by avoiding the reservoir and choosing alternative places to keep active.

“Our priority is to save lives, reduce risk to the vulnerable and protect the NHS.

“Closures and restrictions are in place for safety and we urge all to respect them.”
