The giant sandpit at Eureka! has been put to an unusual use over the last two weekends, with girls from Crossley Belles FC training for their first ever beach football tournament.

The Crossley Belles Under 11s side approached Eureka! for use of their sandpit in order to train for the Bridlington Beach Football tournament which will take place this weekend, with the girls never having played on sand before.

Club chairman Martin Armstrong said that the girls are looking forward to the tournament.

He said: “It’s something a little bit different, isn’t it? We keep an eye out during the Summer on different tournaments going on and we liked the look of this one. The girls got between themselves and we dicided to go for it!

“Their manager Wayne Lockwood came up with the idea of training at Eureka and approached them, and they loved it.”

The girls will travel across to the east coast tomorrow morning and stay the night as part of the two-day tournament.
