Explore the hidden gems of Halifax with walking tours

The tours have proved increasingly popular over the years and are being organised as part of the Halifax Heritage Festival, which runs from September 8 to 11.

The walking tours, which last about two hours, start at Halifax Town Hall and finish at Halifax Minster, with a cup of tea or coffee and an optional climb up the Minster tower.

Last year the tours were fully booked weeks in advance so anyone intersted is advised to book early.

Every year on four days in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors.

Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s fantastic architecture and culture. For the fourth year, the Halifax Minster is offering guided tours to highlight fascinating buildings and facts.

Adrian Rose, who organises the tours on behalf of the Minster said: “The town centre of Halifax is itself a hidden gem. It has a fascinating history with some quite remarkable buildings.”

The tours this year will include: a visit to the town hall cells, a peek inside the Piece Hall to see its progress, the site where Emmeline Pankhurst came to speal in 1911, the oldest surviving pub in the town, the site where he decision was taken to form the Halifax Building Society and the ‘streets in the sky’.
