POLICE have been carrying out high-visibility patrols at jewellers across Calderdale after two armed raids in Brighouse.

Officers visited several stores in town centres yesterday in a bid to reassure staff and customers after the robberies at V Niemantas on Commercial Street.

Detectives are still looking for the raiders behind the thefts on Friday August 12 and Friday August 19.

In the first robbery, at 9.45am, three men with sledgehammers smashed the windows before fleeing with jewellery in a silver Audi.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Lane Head Court, Brighouse.

The week after, two men armed with a gun and a sledgehammer burst into the store at 9am, filling a bag with jewellery.

They escaped with a third man in a black Vauxhall Corsa, later found in Harley Street in Rastrick.

The robbers stole from the same shelf as the raiders the previous week.

They also used the same escape route.

Both the vehicles used are believed to have been stolen from Leeds.

Detectives are urging anyone who knows any-thing about the raids to get in touch.

They want to hear from anyone in Brighouse on the mornings of the robberies who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them.

Anyone who can help should call Calderdale CID on 01422 337085.

Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
