Failing care homes solution ‘won’t work’ – council

Rather than moving people out of failing care homes, replacement staff should be parachutted in, according to Coun Christine Bampton Smith (Lib-Dem, Ludd Foot).

She urged Calderdale Council to set up a “care squad” to intervene and prevent all the upset and distress residents faced when they had to move out.

Her comments follow the closure of Heath Bank Nursing Home at Linden Road, Halifax, which resulted in 26 residents having to be rehoused.

The council’s adults, health and social care spokesman Bob Metcalfe (Lab, Town) said the council could not forceably put staff into private care homes, which made the idea of a care squad unworkable.
