Fairtrade town campaign is launched

The event was timed to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight and marked the launch of Fairtrade Halifax’s campaign to become a Fairtrade Town.

More than 100 people came down to show their support at the event.

Fairtrade tea, coffee, juice and cakes were on sale with stalls also showcasing a variety of Fairtrade products.

Palestinian Fairtrade farmers also attended the event to talk about how Fairtrade benefits them and their communities.

Fairtrade products guarantee better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers across the developing world.

Fairtrade Halifax is the latest addition to Fairtrade Yorkshire’s rapidly growing network of local Fairtrade groups, and Calderdale Council recently passed a motion backing the campaign.

There are 1,210 Fairtrade certified producer organisations in 74 countries across the world, and more than 1.5 million famers and workers in Fairtrade certified producer organisations.
