Family fundraiser in memory of Dad killed by one punch

The family of a Burton Leonard man who was killed by one punch on a work night out last year are to hold a fundraising event this weekend. Paul Morrison, 51, died last November, three weeks after he was punched to the ground in the beer garden of Harrogate Wetherspoons by his work colleague Phillip Begley, 44, who was jailed for six years last month.

“You never think this type of thing will happen to you, but it has to us, ” said Marie Anderson, 28, Mr Morrison’s daughter.

The family are now hoping to raise awareness of the fact that one punch can kill, and raise funds to pay for a memorial bench for the much loved grandfather.

The family hope to place the bench at Littlethorpe wherethey lived before moving to Burton Leonard.

Marie added: “One punch can kill, it isn’t something anyone thinks will happen but it does.”

A charity football match and family fun day will be held at Harrogate Railway Football Club on Sunday August 9 starting at midday. A team of family and friends will play the Rochdale team Mr Morrison supported and there will be a BBQ and bouncy castle.
