Festival music brought out the sun and crowds

The event took place at Old Brodleians Rugby Club and was organised by the Brighouse friends of Overgate Hospice and volunteers at the rugby club.

Around 2,100 people attended, an increase of 600 on last year, and has raised over £10,000 for Overgate Hospice.

There was something for everyone with ten acts, all of whom played for free, fairgound attractions and a variety of games and stalls.

The bands included To The Trees, a Brighouse band and Oyster and the Walrus, an acoustic duo from Southowram and Lightcliffe.

James Ogden, one of the organisers, said: “The day was a great success and the feedback has been absolutley overwhelming.

“It’s somehow turned into a very big festival and we will definitely be returning next year.”

The weather started off cloudy with a little rain but as the festival got going the sun shone through.

All of the acts that played are from the local area and the event focuses mainly on families, the community and local music.

Event organiser, Angela Curran, said: “We had the most tremendous day, all bands were incredible and all playing for the cause, our PA guy Tommy worked his socks off and we thank him so much.

“Thank you to some Sponsors that had banners for the day including DD Porter, WD Heating, Bridge Property Services and Fletchers and basically a big thank you to anyone that played a part in the day.”
