Film puts town on global stage

A film born and bred in Brighouse will have its moment on the big screen when it’s shown at a short film festival next week.

Bridge End Cafe, based at Overton Bridge End Cafe, Brighouse, takes inspiration from the cafe’s wide range of interesting customers and the stories they have to tell.

The film was masterminded by cafe owner Gary Overton, an actor who has appeared in Shameless, Get Santa, Emmerdale and Prisoner’s Wives.

He said: “I saw lots of inspiration from all the different customers that came into the cafe, with their wonderful tales and quips. That’s when I had the idea that a short film about the café would be interesting. I began to write the script and soon realised it would have to be a comedy.” Gary asked friends and fellow actors if they would like to be involved and the idea took off. The film will debut at Kinofilm, Manchester’s International Short Film Festival, on August 26. Gary is now working on the script for his next film.
