A filthy takeaway has closed down after inspectors discovered a catalogue of dirt lurking behind its doors.
Calderdale Council Environmental Health officers visited Top Wok, at Queen’s Road, Halifax, on Wednesday, December 16 as part of a routine inspection.
During the visit, they found the premises riddled with rodents and identified a number of other serious food hygiene offences which were thought to be a serious risk to people’s health.
Inspectors served an Emergency Hygiene Prohibition notice, closing Top Wok with immediate effect. On Friday, Calderdale Magistrates’ Court confirmed the order on the business and ordered the business operator, Zhi Yong Zang, to pay costs totalling £1169.36.
Councillor Barry Collins, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: “We take breaches of hygiene standards very seriously and will not hesitate to take action if we find any areas of concern.
“The problems discovered at this takeaway were serious, with officers identifying an imminent risk to public health, and immediately forcing the owners to close their business.
“We are pleased with the outcome from court and will work with the business to ensure they make the necessary improvements before they are able to reopen.”
