Fire crews tackle ‘deliberate’ flat fire in Lightcliffe

A flat fire in Lightcliffe in the early hours of this morning was started deliberately, police say.

Crews from Rastrick and Cleckheaton were called to the Aysgarth estate area at around 4.30am this morning, where they found a first floor maisonette ablaze.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said nobody was injured in the blaze, but it has caused a lot of smoke damage to the property.

He added that it had been contained to the flat and did not spread any further.

Crews used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus sets at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
