Fire service reports 60 cases of flooding across region

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received 60 calls relating to flooding incidents during last night’s heavy rain.

The majority of the reports were of external flooding in gardens and roads, but some called on officers to use pumps to extract flood water from private properties.

Crews also attended three incidents to assist occupants of vehicles which had become stuck in flood water.

Officers also attended to assess two incidents where lightning strikes had brought two trees down onto house roofs, but no further fire service action was required.

The majority of calls were to the area bordering the A1 Corridor, including Kippax, Castleford, Pontefract and South Kirkby.
