Firefighters’ 49th strike passes with no major incidents

Contingency crews dealt with a range of incidents - none were life-threatening and no emergencies went unattended.

Approximately half the usual fleet of fire engines were available and were spread stratgically across the county to provide the best fire cover.

They were crewed by fully qualified non-striking firefighters and communuity response operatives.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton said: “We are relieved that the 24-hour strike period has passed without major incident and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in delivering our

contingency plan which kept West Yorkshire safe whilst FBU members were on strike.

“The 24-hours have seen a wide range of incidents attended, a large number of which were either false alarms or minor fires.

“West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will now return to business as usual whilst we wait to see what the next stage of this long running and damaging dispute brings.”
