Firefighters tackle second moorland fire at Cragg Vale

Eight crews were called to the area in Turvin Road to battle the blaze which was reported at 6.19pm last night (Tuesday) as well as firefighters from Greater Manchester.

They have been using beaters, back packs, ultra lightweight pumps, argo cat, fire fogger and water shuttles to deal with the fire.

Crews that attended from West Yorkshire included Mytholmroyd, Todmorden, Halifax, Huddersfield, Mirfield, Elland, Odsal and Skelmanthorpe.

The fire spread to the one that was already ongoing at Baitings Reservoir, Rochdale Road, Ripponden. Firefighters from Illingworth, Brighouse, Holmfirth and Halifax plus the wildfire unit from Keighley attended the blaze there just after 2pm yesterday (Tuesday).

The incident was reduced to four pumps who remained there for the night so assessment could be made in daylight hours.

This is the second major moorland fire in the area over the last three days.
