First the snow - now prepare for the big freeze

Freezing temperatures will continue to grip the UK.

Clear skies and dry weather will ensure that the east of the country will continue feeling the winter bite after the few flakes of snow at the weekend.

Forecasters are now saying ice could make travelling more difficult than usual.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for ice in the North East, Yorkshire and large sections of southern Scotland.

Temperatures were expected to hover around zero today, and fall to a low of -2C tomorrow.

Wednesday will be even colder, down to a minimum of -3C, but after that it will get warmer, with temperatures reaching 4-8C by Friday.

It follows a white winter weekend which saw large swathes of the country covered in snow.

Images from around the UK showed snowmen being built and sledges being manned as people made the most of the weather.
