Successful applicants gathered at Brighouse High School to receive their cheques of up to £5000.

The grants come from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Safer Communities Fund which uses money seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

“I originally launched the Safer Communities Fund to bring together money seized from criminals across West Yorkshire into a single pot to benefit the local communities,” said Mr Burns-Williamson.

“There is an incredible demand for funding to pay for community projects which will help people across the county be safer and feel safer

“I would urge any organisations or groups that feel they meet the criteria for the grants to apply in the next round. We have helped some very worthwhile causes in the previous years and I hope this year will see more.”

A total of 177 applications were received by the Officer of the Police and Crime Commissioner for grant round five and 38 were selected by the Safer Communities Fund Board.

Other Calderdale schemes to benefit include Halifax Street Angels, Project Colt, Halifax Boxing Sport and Fitness Club and Lifeline Project LTD.
