The flood fund set up by the Community Foundation for Calderdale has now reached £54,000.

And the foundation says it desperately needs more money following the second wave of flooding to hit the Calder Valley this week.

Spokeswoman Rachel Julian said more people would now be seeking help.

“We desperately need to raise more funds to help people,” she said.

“Some people have lost virtually everything in the lower half of their homes, many losing all of their kitchen equipment, rendering them unable to cook food, store food, wash clothes etc, some have even had to leave their homes.

“The grants from the foundation enable people to start to rebuild their homes.

“I have visited people who have been devastated by what has happened and when I tell them they can apply to the foundation for a grant to help with replacing things like fridges and washing machines it truly eases some of the worry they are feeling.”

So far, the foundation has processed well over 100 applications for help and given out £32,000 in grants and cleaning equipment.
