Flood victims given support as authorities take action

The NHS Health Protection Agency has issued leaflets, which provides important health advice and some basic precautions to keep individuals safe in the event of floods and whilst cleaning up homes and businesses. Repair work is continuing on Lane Ends Lane, in Old Town, which remains closed.

Central Street Infants School, Hebden Bridge, is partly closed due to flood damage, but Hebden Vale Children’s Centre is closed until further notice due to flood damage.

Yesterday, two large sweepers swept both sides of Lee Wood Road, Heptonstall and a gully wagon checked and cleared the gullies on the road. Some gullies were found to need jetting and these were reported to Highways for action.

Debris was swept up on Lee Bottom Road, Todmorden, and the gullies were checked, but no problems were found.

Staff are continuing to remove any flood debris or damaged belongings from premises amongst their normal duties.

Today, gully crews are continuing to work in the Calder Valley responding to service requests.

A Calderdale Council spokesperson said: “Over 100 premises have been given assistance and support in the last two days. We continue to ask people affected by the floods to contact the Council and let us know how the floods have affected you and what assistance you need - please call 0845 245 7000.”
