Foodbank helps those in need

Organisers of a foodbank in Brighouse have urged those in need to make use of the service.

Based at Central Methodist Church, Commercial Street, and run by Brighouse and Surrounding Homeless (BASH), it’s hoped the foodbank will play a huge part in helping society’s most vulnerable.

The foodbank is open every Friday and organisers are encouraging people to use it if they are in difficulty.

Pamela McNulty, assistant foodbank manager, said: “People do not have to struggle, people should not to choose between heating and eating this winter.

“Everbody will get a food parcel, whether their benefits have been sanctioned, they are on a zero-hour contract, they are over the age of 75.

“We just want people to come and use the service - everything has been donated by the people of Brighouse.

“It’s a really big achievement and we’re just asking people to put a little extra in their shopping bag one day of the week.”

The food parcels, which contain toiletries as well as food items, are prepacked and last for around three to five days.

To receive help from BASH, email [email protected] and an advisor will get back to you. Or go along the Central Methodist Church on a Friday between 1.30pm and 3pm.

They include: The ROKT Climbing Gym, Filenas Cafe, Briggate, the Post Office, Wellington Arcade. On Commercial Street: Store 21, Fresh, North’s Seasonal Kitchen, S and L Custance Butchers.

Caffe Amante, King Street; Bradford Road: Charlie’s Gents Barbers,The Cake Maker Shop, The Beck.

Bethel Street: Simply Sweets, Direct Carpets, Yorkshire Building Society, The Works and the BASH office on Parsonage Lane.

Healthy Living Pharmacy and Shampooch in Bailiff Bridge, Love Bread, Martin Street, and Brighouse Stove Centre, Huddersfield Road, recently became the latest drop off points.
