Footy official sex pest caged for ten years

Timothy Mark Brett, aged 47, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on April 14 where he was sentenced for seven separate counts of indecent assault involving a child.

The offences took place between 1982 and 1987 when the victim was aged between five and 10 years old.

Detective Constable Tina Staynings, CID sexual offence liaison officer from Wiltshire Police, said: “This has been a complex and difficult case but I am satisfied with the sentencing handed out to Brett.

“He pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault involving a child, but not guilty to a further three counts, forcing his victim to endure a trial at Salisbury Crown Court in which she had to relive the ordeal she went through as a child.

“The victim involved in this case has been extremely courageous in reporting this abuse to police and in seeing the investigation and court process through.

“Brett’s actions have no doubt had a long lasting effect on the victim, who was just five-years-old when the abuse started. I hope this case highlights how seriously Wiltshire Police and the CPS take historical child sex offences.

Mike Sharman, secretary of the Halifax Sunday League said: “On the evening of Thursday 21 April, the Halifax Sunday League were made aware that Tim Brett had been jailed for ten years having been found guilty of a number of sex offences against a young child dating back to the early 1980s.

“This was the first the League was aware of any such allegations.

“I can confirm that this convicted criminal has been removed as a member of the management committee and media officer for the Halifax Sunday Football League.

“ I also confirm that he is no longer a representative member of either the Halifax District FA or West Riding County FA,” added Mr Sharman

“All action to remove him from these roles was taken swiftly in line with all due practice and common human decency.”
