FORMER Hollyoaks star Paul Opacic has been announced as the celebrity guest for this year’s Calderdale Neighbours’ Day.
Paul, who recently appeared as Carl Costello in Hollyoaks, will be presenting the Calderdale Neighbours’ Day Good Neighbour Awards as well as judging the best stall awards at the event on Saturday at The Piece Hall in Halifax.
He said: “As they sang in the program, ‘Everybody needs good neighbours’.
“Having good neighbours encourages friendship and is the bedrock of a good community, something that is often missing these days.
“Over the years, particularly as a child, I was lucky to have good neighbours, so it is a pleasure for me to be part of an event which encourages and celebrates a priceless facet of everyday life.”
Pudsey Bear will also be making appearing throughout the day at Rotary in Calderdale’s stall, where children will be able to meet him and have a photograph taken with him.
Co-ordinator of the day Steve Blackman said: “We’re delighted that both Paul and Pudsey can be with us on this exciting family day. It will just make what promises to be a really great day even better.”
Organisers say the event will celebrate Calderdale’s diverse communities and showcase local talent.
The free event, which is now in its sixth year, has attracted as many as 11,000 people previously.
Among the entertainment and activities on offer will be live music and dance, cricket, football penalty shoot-out, a pool table, donkey rides, dance and music workshops, face painting, arts and crafts, cup-cake decorating, alternative therapies, and nail art a caving unit and a video kiosk.
The day has been organised by Voluntary Action Calderdale working with other organisations.
