A woman who runs a care-at-home service in Calderdale is holding free information sessions about dementia.

Satinder Salona, from Clifton in Brighouse, has been awarded a £250 grant from the Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge which will allow her to run six one-hour sessions.

She said: “My granddad developed vascular dementia la few years ago and had a really bad experience as most people around him and in the community didn’t understand the condition and couldn’t respond in a way that would’ve made his life more pleasant.

“We were unable to access sufficient support to help us through a difficult time. Just some basic understanding of what he was going through would’ve made the end of his journey a little easier.

“I believe there are lots of local people who have encountered similar issues and I’d like to be able to educate others about dementia to make life easier for those with the disease and their loved ones.

“I am a trained dementia champion through the Alzheimer’s Society and I have knowledge of dementia through my work as MD of Home Instead Senior Care, where we specialise in care-at-home for older people and we deliver in-house dementia training.

“These sessions are for families or friends of those with dementia and anyone that is interested in learning more about the disease and how it affects people.”

The sessions take place between January 20 and 29. For details, call 01422 292424 or email
