A fundraising duo are taking to new heights and climbing one of the world’s highest mountains in a bid to raise money for charity.

Craig Gibbons, 37, of Illingworth and Nick Howard, 48, of Greetland, are taking on several mega charity challenges over the next few months.

This weekend, the pair will trek 148 miles from Blackpool coast to Bridlington coast as part of their training for their biggest adventure yet - Mount Kilimanjaro.

Craig and Nick decided to take on the challenge of the 5,895m tall mountain in Tanzania as part of a lifetime dream but from there, the fundraising mission spiralled and the pair came up with other ideas to expand their schedule.

Craig said: “When we decided to climb the mountain, we started thinking of things we could do in the lead up to it and came up with other walks around the country.

“I can’t believe that we are walking across the country, let alone trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro.

“We are excited as we are going to see parts of the country that we wouldn’t have otherwise.

“It’s the biggest challenge we have done but it’s going to be fantastic.”

Craig is raising money for the Laura Crane Cancer Trust in memory of his dad who died of cancer, while Nick is fundraising for When You Wish Upon a Star.

The pair have raised more than £1,500 so far and are hoping to get more to help their chosen charities before their walk up Mount Kilimanjaro on September 24.

They are holding a fundraising Summer Garden Party on June 20 at the Arches to add to their five fundraising challenges.
