Rising costs mean ticket prices have had to be raised for this year’s event, which celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Gala goers can buy their tickets ahead of time from various outlets for £1, including Halifax Visitor Centre in the Central Library and Flutterbites Café on Manor Heath Park, with tickets costing £4 on the day.

Plans are underway to reunite as many past gala queens, attendants, princes and princesses as possible, while there will also be a procession from the town centre, a baby show and other entertainment.

Over 50 good causes will benefit from the gala, including Yorkshire Cancer Research, 1st Mount Tabor Brownies, Churches Together in Halifax, SharX and the 12th Halifax Sea Scouts.

Each ticket bought at Café Zone on Northgate, Boothtown Community Shop or Calderdale Parent and Carers in Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre will see a share of 50p going directly to National Autistic Society (Calderdale).

“This year’s gate prices have risen so that we can continue to offer a distribution to member organisations,” says Treasurer Julian Fielden, “but as a committee we chose to hold advance ticket prices the same as they have been for over a decade.”

Whilst shops will be selling tickets until late on the Friday evening before gala day, orders close at 2pm on Thursday, June 9 to allow time for first class post to arrive, though organisers recommend web purchases be made before Tuesday, June 7.

Advance ticket holders are able to use dedicated lanes at the gates, allowing them to access the ground much quicker, as volunteers simply have to check their tickets.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 11 at Manor Heath Park, with the procession departing from Eureka at 11.30am and taking about an hour to reach the park.

No road closures will be in place before 11:20am. However some junctions will be closed for longer.
