THE UK's biggest women-only fund-raising event is coming to Halifax for the first time ever.
Organisers of Cancer Research UK's Race for Life have announced a 5k run will be held at Savile Park on Sunday July 24.
The event will be a first for Halifax - with local women travelling to runs in Huddersfield, Bradford and Leeds in previous years.
Jenny Key, Race for Life event manager for Halifax, said: "We are asking Halifax women to mark Sunday 24 July, 2011, in their diaries now and invite their mums, daughters, sisters, friends and colleagues to take part with them.
"Race for Life has an unforgettable atmosphere with local women of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness abilities coming together to make a positive difference to the lives of people touched by cancer.
"They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k, with many simply walking round, chatting and having fun.
"Race for Life is a powerful testimony to how much women can achieve when they pull together for a common goal."
Since Race for Life started in 1994, 4.7m women across the UK have raised over 327m to fund Cancer Research UK's work.
This year, Tesco will have been supporting Cancer Rearch UK's Race for Life for ten years and organisers say they've joined forces to create the biggest, brightest and most inspiring event yet - with the hope of one million women signing up to take part.
A total of 1,800 women can take part in Halifax and people can sign up now at www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0871 6411111.
