A girl had to be cut from the car she was travelling in after a crash in Sowerby Bridge.

Firefighters from Halifax and Illingworth were called to Holmes Road, Sowerby Bridge, at around 9.50pm last night (Sunday).

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the car had crashed into a wall.

Crews had to cut the roof off the car to free the girl, thought to be in her teens, and she was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The extent of her injuries is currently unknown.

Two other passengers managed to get out of the car before emergency services arrived at the scene.

Crews left at around 10.45pm.

Earlier in the evening, firefighters from Rastrick and Halifax were called to an address off Saddleworth Road, Barkisland, to free a man from under his car.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the man got stuck after crawling under his car and suffering a back spasm.

Crews put bricks under the car to free him and the man was taken to hospital.
