Global firm’s plan for Ainley Top factory

Cummins Turbo Technologies, conducted an extensice search to identify a site in the area for a proposed new 18,600 m2 world-class manufacturing facility.

The company is looking to significantly improving its operations and supply chain capabilities, which are critical to the company’s short and long-term success.

Cummins is working with Thornhill Estates, owner of the proposed site, to submit a planning application to Calderdale Council.

Mark Prior, Huddersfield Turbo Plant Transformation Director, said: “We are extremely pleased we were able to identify a site locally in West Yorkshire that will allow us to enhance our operations and create a world-class facility, while also strengthening our presence in the community.”

“We are proud of our 65 year heritage in Huddersfield and we are strongly committed to the local area. We did an exhaustive analysis to find a site that would allow us to keep our operations in the community, rather than either moving jobs to another region or another country. This site, located just five miles from our existing plant, is the only site in the area that meets our business requirements and allows us to stay in the local area.

“The new plant will allow us to continue with our investment plans, and ensure we continue to deliver our high standards of service to meet the needs of customers and employees alike. We look forward to discussing this proposal with our many stakeholders and prospective neighbours.”

The proposed facility is part of Cummins’ continued investment in manufacturing in the region.

On completion of the proposed new facility, approximately 400 jobs, currently based at the St Andrew’s Road site, will relocate to the new plant.
